England move up FIFA rankings despite dire World Cup

England have risen one place in the FIFA world rankings despite their dismal showing at the World Cup.

Fabio Capello led England to two draws, one narrow victory and a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of Germany but they still moved up to seventh.

World Cup winners and European champions Spain are now the No1 team with Holland, Brazil, Germany, Argentina and Uruguay all ahead of England.

France, winners in 1998, dropped 12 places to 21st, below Slovenia and Australia, while 2006 champions Italy fell out of the top 10, to 11th, after failing to win a game in South Africa. Scotland are 41st.
