Gareth Southgate has explained why he selected Kyle Walker in his latest England squad.

The Manchester City defender has been called up despite Cheshire Police launching an investigation after a the Sun alleged he indecently exposed himself in a bar.

Southgate said: “It is a complicated situation. I have spoken at length with him. The fact is that as we sit here at the moment, he is playing with his club.

“There’s no conclusive evidence to leave him out at this stage so I think I have to be very careful about being the moral judge on things. We’ve had a couple of long conversations and we feel we want him with us and that’s the right thing to do.

“We also know when you are an England international that there’s an even higher bar of what’s expected and how you conduct yourself so we don’t take these decisions lightly.”

It is thought Walker is contesting the allegations, while both Manchester City and his agent have declined to comment.
