England stretched their unbeaten run under Sarina Wiegman to 23 games as they beat world champions USA at Wembley.

The Lionesses, who historically won Euro 2022 in the summer, took the lead inside 10 minutes as Lauren Hemp tucked home Beth Mead’s cross.

The USA then hit back through Sophia Smith, who impressed all night upfront and gave England’s defence plenty of problems.

The Lionesses regained the lead before the break through a Georgia Stanway penalty and the USA had a goal by Trinity Rodman ruled out for offside.

Neither side could find the net in the second-half, despite both going close, and England held on to claim a famous win over the USA.

Mary Earps 6

Didn’t really have masses to do during the night as England dominated the majority of possession. Couldn’t do anything about Smith’s goal, which was a great finish.

Lucy Bronze 8

The right-back said Barcelona has given her a new lease of life - and it shows. Had a great game at right-back, getting forward and causing USA plenty of problems.

Millie Bright 6

Not quite at the level she was during the Euros and struggled at times with the pace and trickery of USA forward Smith. Hit some brilliant diagonal balls forward, though.

Alex Greenwood 5

Struggled at times and her passing was quite loose, particularly in the first-half. Did improve as the game went on and settled into the rhythm of it.

Rachel Daly 6

Had a fairly solid game at left-back. Didn’t get forward as much as Bronze on the other flank, but kept things solid defensively.

Keira Walsh 8 | Star player

What a player the central midfielder is. She made a world-record move to Barcelona this summer and you can see why. Oozes class and ran the game.

Georgia Stanway 8

Will be disappointed about being dispossessed for the USA goal, but she bounced back well by scoring the decisive penalty. As always had bags of energy and gave England dynamism in midfield.

Beth Mead 7

Started the game very well and setup Hemp for the opener with a good cross from out wide. Rotated positions during the match and spent time upfront too.

Fran Kirby 7

Missed the internationals last month due to injury, but the Chelsea attacking midfielder is starting to look back to her best. Had some nice moments against the USA, linking the play well.

Chloe Kelly 5

A disappointing night for the hero of the Euro 2022 final. Never really got into the game and couldn’t have the influence she would have wanted.

Lauren Hemp 7

Tasked with playing out of position and leading the line, the Manchester City forward did well. Took her goal nicely and went close on other occasions.

Substitutions

Ella Toone (Kirby 68’) 6

On for the final 20 minutes or so. Didn’t have her usual super-sub impact, but was solid.

Lauren James (Kelly 90’) N/A

Subs not used: Roebuck,MacIver, Zelem, Wubben-Moy, Carter, Morgan, Parris, Park, Stokes, Salmon
