Erik Lamela has admitted he will need to familiarise himself with the English game, following his substitute appearance against Arsenal on Sunday.
The 21-year-old joined Tottenham from Serie A side Roma on Friday and was thrown straight into the high-octane atmosphere of a north London derby, entering the fray in the 75th minute.
Lamela told Spurs TV he was relishing the challenge of competing in the Premier League and adapting to the forward-thinking nature of England’s top flight.
“I’m really happy to be here, it’s a great move for me and I’m really looking forward to doing my best for the team in every game,” the midfielder said.
“I’m hoping to integrate myself really quickly. I’ve only had one training session, I’ve met all the lads for the first time today but they seem really nice guys and I think it will be a good group of players for this season.
“I like the English style of football it’s very offensive and attacking and that’s what I want to play in and I’ve got to adapt myself to playing in the Premier League as quickly as I can.”
The Argentine hopes he can replicate the success of his countrymen who have gone before him at Spurs, lauding the feats achieved by both Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardiles.
“I’m really happy to be here and I know I’m following some big footsteps with those two players and I respect them a lot.
“I’m hoping that I can also make the same transition and be as good as they are.”
