Erik Lamela is the latest Tottenham star to agree a contract extension ahead of the new season.

The Argentine has penned a fresh deal, which will expire in the summer of 2022, shortly after team-mate Heung-min Son's five-year extension was confirmed.

Lamela returned to first-team action with Tottenham last autumn after over a year out with hip problems, and was used predominantly off the bench for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The midfielder's two goals in the league last season both came on the final day 5-4 win over Leicester City.

Lamela has begun his pre-season, his first since 2015 without an international tournament, with a first-half hat-trick against Southend United and will continue to work on his fitness during the squad's pre-season tour of the United States.

Pochettino and Harry Kane also penned improved terms, with announcements made ahead of the World Cup, and Standard Sport understands the club hope Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Kieran Trippier will follow suit.
