England vs Iceland Player Ratings: Joe Hart, Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane woeful as Three Lions crash out of Euro 2016

England crashed out of Euro 2016 courtesy of an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to minnows Iceland tonight.

Wayne Rooney got the Three Lions off to the perfect start by firing home a penalty just two minutes into the game after Raheem Sterling had been brought down by Hannes Halldorsson.

Such an early strike was supposed to be enough to calm the nerves for Roy Hodgson's side but their lead lasted less than a minute when a long throw caused panic inside England's penalty area and Ragnar Sigurdsson slotted home at the back post.

England responded relatively well and continued to create chances but fell behind when Kolbeinn Sigthorsson slotted home past Joe Hart, who got one hand on the ball but was unable to turn it around the post.

Hodgson's side controlled possession for long periods but again struggled to break down a side that was comfortable sitting in to defend in numbers.

Jack Wilshere was brought on at the break and Jamie Vardy was introduced on the hour mark but a change of personnel could not alter the match.

England, despite their expensively assembled side full of Premier League stars, were humbled by a nation with the population equal in size to Coventry.

But did anyone emerge with credit from a disappointing night in Nice? Or did England's entire side come up short against the tournament debutants?
