Paris Saint Germain full-back Thomas Meunier has revealed his surprise following David Luiz's return to Chelsea.

Meunier moved to Paris from Club Brugge in July, signing a four-year deal, and never played alongside Luiz in a competitive league game as the Brazilian secured a deadline day switch back to Chelsea.

Luiz's £34million move to Stamford Bridge was only confirmed on transfer deadline day as Antonio COnte's protracted search for defensive reinforcements finally reached a conclusion.

Chelsea were locked in negotiations with PSG for much of deadline day after seeing a shock £32million bid knocked back on the eve of the final day of business.

And Meunier has revealed the surprise extended across the channel.

"Everybody was surprised, I think," Meunier told Sky Sports.

"Nobody expected such a scenario; I didn't expect that simply.

"He probably wanted to try again in England, you know how attractive it is to play in England.
