FA charge Luis Suarez for alleged offensive gesture

11 April 2012

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has until Monday to decide whether to contest a second Football Association charge in less than a month.

The Uruguayan was yesterday charged with improper conduct for an alleged offensive gesture he made towards Fulham fans when he walked off the pitch at the end of Monday's 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage.

The news came three weeks after the FA decided Suarez did have a case to answer following allegations of racism levelled at him by Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

The French full-back alleged Suarez racially abused him about 10 times during a 1-1 draw at Anfield in October, a claim the Liverpool player strongly denies.

Suarez, a January recruit from Ajax, is being fully supported by his club in fighting the charge.

Liverpool also found themselves in hot water yesterday when they were charged by the FA with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion following the controversial sending off of Jay Spearing in the second half.

A number of players reacted angrily after the midfielder was shown a straight red card by referee Kevin Friend for a tackle on Moussa Dembele in the 72nd minute.

The club, who have opted not to appeal against the decision, also have until 4pm on Monday to decide whether or not to accept the charge.
