Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 27: Chelsea's Pedro and Cesc Fabregas offer points as Man City face double header

Tom Doyle3 March 2017

It's Friday afternoon, and we all know what that means - time to make some Fantasy Premier League decisions which will make or break the weekend.

Whether you've got office bragging rights or are sick of taking a beating from your friends in your WhatsApp group after a few horror weekends, you could probably do with doing a little research as Gameweek 27 approaches.

Here are 11 players you should have - or should look to transfer in - for this weekend's action...

Goalkeeper: David De Gea (Manchester United)

The Manchester United No.1 has kept clean sheets in his last three Premier League games, while Bournemouth are winless in their last seven league outings.

De Gea may be an expensive choice at £5.4million, but United will soon face a double gameweek and will surely tighten up during the run-in as Jose Mourinho looks to secure a top-four finish.

Defence: John Stones (Manchester City)

The 22-year-old has had his fair share of defensive howlers this season, but his crucial Champions League goal against Monaco may well mark a turning points for Stones - even if he did cost City a goal in the very same game.

There's also a catch on Gamweeek 27, as Manchester City's FA Cup progress means Pep Guardiola's side now face a double-header against Sunderland (Sunday) and Stoke (Wednesday).

A rare double gameweek means any City player is worth four penalty points to transfer in, and the prospect of two clean sheets and a potential set-piece goal means Stones could provide a tasty return at £4.7m.

Defence: Gareth McAuley (West Brom)

The Baggies centre-back keeps popping up with goals, scoring two in his last two games to take his tally to six for the season - more than Mesut Ozil, Kevin De Bruyne and Paul Pogba.

With Tony Pulis' defence one of the more miserly in the top flight with 32 goals conceded, McAuley makes the grade with Crystal Palace bringing their unconvincing defence to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

The 27-year-old has scored more than a fair few strikers at just £5.2million, and is also one for the long haul with few teams playing in Gameweek 28.

Defence: Alfie Mawson (Swansea)

The 23-year-old has taken to life quickly at Swansea, following up his decent goal returns for Wycombe and Barnsley (six a season) with three league goals in 14 top-flight appearances for the Swans.

Mawson has scored crucial goals in recent wins against Leicester and Southampton, and and a home tie against Burnley points to joy at both ends given that the Clarets have just two points from 12 away games this season.

Midfield: Pedro (Chelsea)

The Spaniard has been in superb form of late to boost Chelsea's Premier League and FA Cup hopes, and made the crucial breakthrough against Swansea last weekend.

Pedro has two goals and an assist in his last two games, while West Ham are without a clean sheet in their last five league matches, conceding nine goals.

Midfield: Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea)

The Icelandic playmaker is one of the key reasons Swansea have not already been relegated, with the 27-year-old's seven goals and nine assists providing over half of his side's 32 league strikes.

Three goals in his last five games have helped the Swans pull out of the relegation zone, and - as with team-mate Mawson - a meeting with Burnley makes Sigurdsson hard to pass up at £7.6m.

Midfield: Raheem Sterling (Man City)

The 22-year-old is yet to miss a league match for City this season, meaning he's more than a likely pick for both ties in City's double-header gameweek.

Sterling has offered a solid return at £7.8m with five goals and six assists this term, and is now hitting his stride as Guardiola's side find their rhythm.

Gabriel Jesus's injury has disrupted a fine understanding between Brazilian striker, Leroy Sane and Sterling, but the latter's lightning pace and ability to spot a pass means that if things go well for City, he could well be this gameweek's highest points scorer.

Midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

Fabregas has, in the past, tended to disappoint in the second half of seasons in terms of fantasy points, but the 29-year-old looks as fresh as ever having struggled to get into Antonio Conte's starting XI before the turn of the year.

The Spaniard has two goals in his last three games, scoring and assisting against Swansea to justify Conte's faith in starting him ahead of Nemanja Matic.

Chelsea face a potentially tricky test against West Ham, but the Hammers' recent 4-0 collapse at home to Man City suggests Fabregas will have plenty of space in between the lines to both create and finish.

Striker: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Manchester United)

The 35-year-old striker is fit and firing with 26 goals in all competitions, including two against Southampton at Wembley to help United win the EFL Cup.

With Bournemouth winless in seven and yet to keep a clean sheet this year - conceding 20 goals in seven league games in 2017 - Ibrahimovic will be backed to get on the scoresheet against the Cherries in Saturday's early kick-off.

Striker: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Aguero is a shoo-in this weekend due to City's double gameweek and Jesus' injury problems.

Despite a lack of game time this season, Aguero has still scored 11 league goals at an average of 129 minutes per strike.

With two games against defences lacking confidence, picking the 28-year-old as your captain could yield one of the best returns from a single player this season - especially if you still have the triple-captain bonus to call on.

Striker: Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

The England international has been a shadow of his former self this season - along with many of his team-mates - but two goals in his last three games sees Vardy in fine form as Leicester welcome Hull to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Foxes were superb as they beat Liverpool 3-1 on Monday night, and Vardy - in spite of his £9.6m price tag - is worth backing considering Hull has the third-worst defensive record in the division, despite their vast improvment under Marco Silva.
