Former Liverpool star John Barnes performs Italia 90 rap for tourists on a beach in Dubai

John Barnes rolled back the years and showed he has lost none of his musical rhythm when he performed the rap from World in Motion, England’s Italia 90 World Cup anthem, for tourists in Dubai.

Basking in the Middle-Eastern sunshine, Barnes happily burst into the rap, which featured at the end of the tune made famous in the build-up to Italia 90, when asked if he could still remember the words.

World in Motion was written by alternative-rock group, New Order, and released to coincide with England’s 1990 World Cup campaign. The song featured the entire England squad singing along to the chorus which Barnes also performs at the end of the rap.

The track reached number 1 in 1990 and placed 22 in the charts in the run up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The rap in World in Motion was Barnes’ second appearance in a music video after he performed on the track Anfield Rap along with his Liverpool teammates in 1988.
