Harry Redknapp has agreed to juggle his mentoring duties at Derby with a brief stint managing the Jordan national side.

The 69-year-old Standard Sport columnist was appointed director of football at Pride Park earlier this week and will offer guidance to head coach Darren Wassell, who was promoted to the position from the club's academy following Paul Clement's surprise dismissal last month.

But Redknapp will leave the country to take up an interim post with Jordan after watching Derby's home clash with bitter rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The former Tottenham and QPR boss has been asked by close friend Prince Ali, who lost out to Gianni Infantino in the recent Fifa election, to manage the Jordan national side for upcoming qualifiers against Bangladesh and Australia.

“It’s going to be a tough couple of weeks, that’s for sure," said Rednapp.

“I’m friends with Prince Ali and wanted him to take over from Sepp Blatter. He asked me if I’d manage the team for a couple of matches and I agreed.

“I’ll go to the Forest game and then go straight to London and fly to Jordan.

“It’s a busy time but I’ve missed the buzz of being involved in football.”
