FPL tips: Three best captaincy contenders in Fantasy Premier League for GW27

Forwards could feast in Premier League weekend

After the chaos of Double Gameweek 25 and Blank Gameweek 26 comes some relative normalcy. For Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, the midpoint of this five-Gameweek stretch is the only one where all 20 teams play exactly once.

The previous couple saw Erling Haaland underwhelm as captain. He was very nearly goalless both times in the double, no doubt stressing the 1.3 million who used their Triple Captain chip on him, before he was limited to just an assist at Bournemouth.

It might encourage managers to place their Gameweek 27 armbands elsewhere, with several in-form assets about to have an attractive fixture.

With this in mind, here is a trio of replacements suggested by Fantasy Football Scout.

Erling Haaland (£14.4m)

Naturally, such is the inevitability of FPL, Manchester City’s star forward followed these disappointing returns with a stunning five goals in Tuesday’s FA Cup win at Luton. Never doubt Haaland.

In tandem with Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m), this devastating combination gave a nod to last season and a possible hint of what’s to come in the Manchester derby.

The Norwegian has five goals and a trio of FPL assists from just three league meetings with Erik ten Hag’s side – one that has conceded 116 shots over their last six matches, worsened only by Brentford.

Bukayo Saka (£9.2m)

However, some managers will want to play catch-up and gain some ground on mini-league rivals.

When straying from the norm of Haaland, attention immediately goes to the form of Bukayo Saka. An incredible seven goals in five games, averaging 11.8 points each time.

Rampant Arsenal recently netted on 15 occasions versus Newcastle, Burnley and West Ham, so it’s scary to think what could happen to Sheffield United considering October’s reverse meeting ended 5-0.

It’s the same scoreline suffered twice more by the Blades in their last four League games.

Ollie Watkins (£8.9m)

Another regular hauler is Aston Villa’s Watkins, with an average of 10.5 points throughout his latest four matches.

He’s on a hot streak, is far ahead for the league’s most goal involvements (29) and travels to Luton. The Hatters may be showing some fight in their relegation battle but no team has gifted more big chances to their opponents (86) and, as mentioned, they’ve just been hammered by Man City.

Six goals conceded on Tuesday, on top of the four to Liverpool, four to Newcastle and three to Sheffield United over recent weeks. Watkins could feast at Kenilworth Road.
