Fran Kirby hopes to be fit for this summer’s home Euros after linking up with England following three months out with illness.

The Chelsea forward has not played since February because of an undiagnosed illness which left her fatigued to the point she could not even walk her dog.

Kirby, who missed much of the 2019-20 season with pericarditis, a condition affecting the fluid sac around the heart, said: “I am really excited. It’s been an interesting few months for me.

“I am happy to be here and happy to be involved and happy to be back at St. George’s Park with the girls.

“It was really tough [being out]. I think for me, obviously, I’ve had previous experiences with illness so it was quite a hard one to take.

“But at the time I wasn’t really caring about football or training or anything like that. So I think I dealt with it really well.

“It was really tough missing games, missing being part of the team. I couldn’t really go into the training ground and you just lose a lot of stuff that you used to be able to do, like just walking the dog.

“I couldn’t even walk the dog for five minutes, so that’s been nice to able to start doing that again and back into training.

“It was tough, but obviously now I’m on the other side of it and hopefully I can continue pushing.”
