Told to provide 'more entertainment' by the club's board at the end of last season, West Ham boss Sam Allardyce signed no fewer than nine new players over the summer.

First in through the doors at Upton Park was Argentine striker Mauro Zarate, with the one-time Birmingham City man signed from Velez Sarsfield.

He would prove to be just one of three forwards to join the Hammers, with two additions made to the defence, and four in midfield, as Allardyce attempted to re-model is squad.

With three wins and a draw from their opening seven league matches, West Ham find themselves sitting pretty in seventh spot – ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton.

They have already recorded an impressive 3-1 victory over Brendan Rodgers' side, while coming close to winning at Old Trafford.
