As young English players in the Premier League continue to look abroad to get some much-needed game time, the EFL are celebrating the chances on offer with their Youth Development Week.

After Jadon Sancho plumped for Borussia Dortmund over Manchester City in 2017, more and more English prospects have been looking to the continent to rack up minutes and finally secure a breakthrough into senior football.

In the EFL, however, there is no such clamour to move. English players under the age of 21 make up 25 per cent of the three divisions below the Premier League, where there have already been almost 1,500 starting opportunities this season.

The EFL this week are celebrating the work of the leagues and their clubs, who benefit from £90million worth of investment into youth development a year, as youngsters continue to thrive.
