Fulham on the rise after draw at Bridge

John Arne Riise believes Fulham can use their midweek draw at Chelsea as a springboard for getting back to winning ways at home to Tottenham tomorrow.

Fulham went to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday smarting from successive defeats against Sunderland and Stoke, and without a Premier League win in five games. But the manner in which they collected a point at the Bridge has given Riise (above) hope that manager Martin Jol can get one over on his former club.

The Norway international defender, who has missed just one of Fulham’s 14 Premier League fixtures this season, said: “Even though we’ve just played two games in a short space of time, and we’ve got a third one coming up, we feel great because we put in a great team performance against Chelsea which has given us energy ahead of Spurs.

“We kept a clean sheet which was important for us. But Spurs won 2-1 against Liverpool, so they are on a high as well, which means it will be a very tough game for us.

“But it is a home match and we want to get back to winning ways and get points on the board, so the Chelsea result was a good step going into this game.

“People worked hard on Wednesday, we really wanted to keep a clean sheet and get back among the points. Now we’ve got to take that momentum into the Tottenham game.”

Brede Hangeland is suspended so Philippe Senderos is set to retain his place alongside Riise in Fulham’s backline. Bryan Ruiz and Alex Kacaniklic will also be absent with hamstring strains but Kieran Richardson should be available again after missing the last three games.
