Alan Curbishley has dismissed suggestions he turned down a return to Fulham because of a disagreement over pay.

Curbishley spoke to Fulham manager Kit Symons about becoming the club’s new director of football, and it was reported he turned down the job at Craven Cottage because he could not agree on a financial package.

But the 57-year-old, who was appointed as Fulham’s technical director last December but was sacked after less than two months in the role, says that was not the case.

“Kit did speak to me about going there but if never went any further than that,” said Curbishley. “Talk that it [the deal] broke down because of money is absolutely untrue, it is nonsense. It never got that far.

“I have wished Kit all the best. After a disappointing result against Brentford, they got a great result away to Brighton at the weekend. I wish Fulham all the best.”
