Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has hit out at supporters who questioned the club’s decision to hand Eddie Nketiah a new contract.

The forward ended the season in brilliant form, scoring five goals in the last seven Premier League games after ousting Alexandre Lacazette in Mikel Arteta’s starting lineup.

A target for both West Ham and Crystal Palace, the Hale End graduate penned a new five-year-deal at the club and was handed the iconic No.14 shirt, previously worn by Thierry Henry.

Such is the insatiable nature of the transfer window, however, sections of the support on Twitter weren’t overly enthused.

Clearly, that is not an accurate barometer of fan sentiment as a whole, but with a striker needed following the exits of both Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over the past two windows, some supporters were eager to see more.

Gabriel, however, took umbrage to some of the reaction on social media and tweeted: “how can you be so ungrateful! OMG.”

Should Nketiah see out his contract, the forward will have spent over a decade at the Emirates Stadium after joining from Chelsea’s academy system in 2015.

In total, the England U21 international has scored 23 goals in 92 games for the club and was part of the squad who won the FA Cup under Arteta in 2020.
