Arsenal have offered their former ‘Invincible’ Gilberto Silva a coaching role once his playing days come to an end, according to the Brazilian.

The 38-year-old midfielder made 244 appearances for the Gunners and was a member of the side which went the entire 2003-04 Premier League season unbeaten.

Gilberto is still keen on continuing his playing career after leaving Atletico Mineiro, but claims there are doors open for him at Arsenal once he retires.

“I have had an invitation,” Gilberto told Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte. “Anything is possible.

“It makes me happy when you have these invitation, and it makes me want to learn from others, seek knowledge and develop my own style.

“I spent six years at Arsenal, which was a great place to learn.

“I have it as a reference point and a football model.”

Gilberto, who is recovering from a knee injury, added: “I’ve had some offers to play again.

“My rehabilitation is in the final stretch and I’m open to discussions.”
