Harry Kane set to face Watford after returning to Tottenham training ahead of schedule

Harry Kane is ahead of schedule in his recovery from an ankle ligament injury after training with his Tottenham team-mates ahead of Saturday's trip to Watford.

When Kane sustained the damage in the FA Cup quarter-final win against Millwall on March 12, the original prediction was that he would be absent for about six weeks.

Yet the England forward has made rapid progress in his rehabilitation, to such an extent that Standard Sport understands he could even be involved against Walter Mazzarri’s team at White Hart Lane.

Kane trained with the rest of the squad today for the first time since the injury.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is not afraid to throw Kane back into action after little full training.

The 23-year-old started the north London derby at Emirates Stadium last November, even though he had only recently rejoined his team-mates after recovering from another ankle problem. Kane duly scored the equaliser from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw.

Tottenham’s target was always for Kane, who has 24 goals this season, to play in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Wembley on April 22.

However, he made such rapid strides that he was quickly pencilled again for the meeting against Bournemouth at home next weekend — and now he could even feature a week earlier than that, only 27 days after the original injury.

Meanwhile, Spurs say Danny Rose, who has not played since damaging medial knee ligaments in the 0-0 draw at Sunderland on January 31, is on track to rejoin first-team training towards the end of the month.
