Harry Kane: Tottenham are my family and I like the pressure of scoring Spurs' goals, but injury layoff helped me rest

Harry Kane believes his seven week lay-off could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham.

Kane started his first game at Arsenal yesterday since damaging ankle ligaments in September, and netted the equaliser from the penalty spot in Sunday's 1-1 north London derby draw at the Emirates.

The England international has led the line for club and country for much of the last two years and has not had much of a break.

Kane feels his enforced absence means he will now be in better shape to help Tottenham challenge at the top of the table for the rest of the campaign.

He said: "I never want to be injured or missing games. But when you get injured you have to look at the positives to help you.

"It gave me six-seven weeks off to rest the other muscles that haven't been rested in a while. It's a good thing. I got fit and I made sure I stayed healthy.

"I had a break early on when I first got injured, I went away with the missus. But after that there were double sessions in the gym and outside to maintain my health and fitness so that when I was called upon, like at Arsenal, I was ready for it.

"I felt fine [and wasn't worried about the injury]. I have been working hard to be ready and I wouldn't have been out there if I wasn't feeling good enough. I still need to get some match fitness, but I was delighted to be out there and to score."

Kane has now scored five goals in his last four appearances against Arsenal and is ready to get Tottenham's season back on track.

While they impressed at Arsenal, Mauricio Pochettino's side have now gone seven games without a victory in all competitions.

Kane's lengthy spell on the sidelines coincided with the downturn and the team's struggles in front of goal.

He added: "It has been difficult to watch games while I have been injured, especially with the team going through a bit of a spell where we haven't been winning games.

"It's like watching my family and I just want to be out there helping them.

"I was there training with the team, I was around them. It has been a difficult spell for us but we came out against Arsenal and played very well, we could have even nicked it.

"Do I like the responsibility of being the main goal-scorer at Spurs? Yes, it's what it's all about. I'm in the team to score goals.

"I try and score as many as I can in the season to help the team out. Whenever I'm on the pitch I feel confident."
