Harry Redknapp has been appointed the new manager of Birmingham City, the Championship club have announced.

Gianfranco Zola resigned on Easter Monday following the 2-0 defeat away to Burton Albion, having won two of his 24 games in charge.

The Italian has left Birmingham just three points clear of the relegation zone with three games left to play and Redknapp will be tasked with guiding them to safety.

A club statement read: "The Club is delighted to announce that Harry Redknapp is Blues new manager.

"The vastly experienced Redknapp has agreed to replace Gianfranco Zola, who resigned on Monday.

"Redknapp has enjoyed notable success as a manager at AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United, Portsmouth, Tottenham Hotspur and QPR."

Redknapp's most recent job was with Jordan's national team but he failed to oversee a successful 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
