Harry Redknapp poised for remarkable return

11 April 2012

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is poised to make a remarkable return to the dug-out for Monday night's Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

Redknapp underwent minor heart surgery two weeks ago and was initially advised to stay away from work for up to six weeks.

But the 64-year-old, who had two stents inserted to unblock coronary arteries, has progressed ahead of schedule and first-team coach Joe Jordan today revealed he could even return to the training ground this weekend.

Jordan said: "I think at the end of it all it will depend on his conversation with the medical people, but he's feeling good and he sounds good and there's a possibility he will be back for the Villa game and maybe he will pop in before that. He sounds very optimistic there is a chance of that happening."

Redknapp has missed only two games since surgery after he felt pain in his chest running on a treadmill at home.He has not been to the ground since, but has been in regular contact with his staff.

Jordan added: "Over the last couple of weeks the most important thing after having the operation was to have rest and care and that's what he has done.

"He's made contact with people at the club but I think we've respected what has happened and we've left him alone unless it's really important."
