Hat-trick hero Gareth Bale warns Inter the best is yet to come from him

11 April 2012

Gareth Bale today insisted his best form is yet to come and hailed the impact Harry Redknapp has had on his game after scoring a sensational hat-trick as Tottenham lost to Inter Milan.

The 21-year-old was in sparkling form but unable to prevent a 4-3 defeat in the San Siro as the visitors conceded four times in the first half and lost goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes to a straight red card.

Bale almost single-handedly dragged them to parity in the Champions League tie with three second-half efforts, including one superb strike that followed a run that began in his own half.

Bale has attracted interest from Europe's leading clubs but is ignoring the talk and believes he can improve under boss Redknapp.

"I don't read into anything said about me — I'm just happy playing week in, week out for Tottenham and learning my football here," said the Wales midfielder. "I am happy and I want to keep playing.

"I don't take any interest in what is written about me because it's best to keep your feet on the ground. Hopefully, there is still a lot more to come from me — I am still young and still learning and I want to keep getting better.

"The manager has given me the chance to play and I am grateful for that. In training we have worked on things and more things are coming into my game.

"I just want to keep playing every week because that is the most important thing — that's when you learn the most. He has given me the confidence to go out there and express myself and that is the best thing a manager can do I think."

Bale got some stick after waiting two years and 24 Premier League matches before being involved in a victory and Jermaine Jenas praised his team-mate's transformation.

"Around the time, talk about that statistic affected him a bit," said the midfielder. "After a couple of years of criticism from the press about not winning games with the team, you can't find words big enough to explain how he has come out of it like he has."
