Heurelho Gomes today insisted Tottenham can win the Premier League this season but only if they improve their defensive record.
Following yesterday's absorbing contest at White Hart Lane, the goalkeeper might also have to raise his game if Spurs are to claim their first championship since 1961.
Gomes made two huge errors against Carlo Ancelotti's misfiring team. He was at fault for Chelsea's 70th-minute equaliser and also conceded the injury-time penalty with a clumsy challenge on Ramires.
Luckily for Gomes, he saved Drogba's weak spot-kick to earn Spurs a draw.
Harry Redknapp's side are now five points behind rivals Arsenal, who play at Manchester United tonight, but Gomes believes they will be in contention at the end of the season if they can improve at the back.
Spurs have stopped only one team from scoring this season and that was Manchester City on the opening day.
He said: "Of course we believe we can be title contenders but we have to keep more clean sheets. Manchester United and Chelsea keep a lot of clean sheets.
"We just changed the way we play and we need time to adapt it. Sometimes we need to be more compact, like the defenders, to keep more clean sheets.
"But we play in the right way. We concede goals because we attack as well. Last season we defended more than we attacked, but this season we have a player like Luka Modric playing in central midfield. We're still up there and we can keep going, we can finish up there.
"It's not easy to play against a team like Chelsea. We're in a great moment, but they're a very experienced side. They made a difficult game for us.
"When you go into a difficult game like this and people are saying you can win the match, this shows the players and everybody how good we are. We have to keep going and get points."

Tottenham's belief that they can do just that will have been strengthened now Michael Dawson has returned following three months out with a knee and ankle injury sustained on England duty.
Gomes added: "He is a great player. We kept a lot of clean sheets together last season, he was great for us. I think he is amazing in front of me. He just started now and needs time to readapt as well. He is a great guy and pushes us a little bit. We need players like him."
It was Dawson's first game for Spurs since the 1-0 defeat at home to Wigan on 28 August and Redknapp was delighted to have him back in the team.
"Michael was outstanding," said the Spurs boss. "Younes Kaboul wasn't fit, William Gallas injured a hamstring, so the only centre-half we had apart from Sebastien Bassong was Michael.
"It's his first week back and I threw him in at the deep end. What a competitor, what a man, he's fantastic."
Gareth Bale was seen heavily limping as he left the stadium and Spurs will be hoping the Wales international has not joined Rafael van der Vaart, Ledley King, Tom Huddlestone, Younes Kaboul and Jonathan Woodgate on their lengthy injury list.
The 21-year-old was furious after a late challenge by Michael Essien and struggled to make an impact after the crunching first-half tackle.
