Huddersfield 0-1 Liverpool: Mohamed Salah scores winner as Reds keep pace with Manchester City

Mohamed Salah struck in the first half to give Liverpool a hard-fought 1-0 win over Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium.

The Egyptian latched onto Xherdan Shaqiri's incisive pass and toepoked past Jonas Lossl with the away side's first shot on goal.

But Huddersfield kept plugging away for an equaliser and nearly got one. Jonathan Hogg struck a cleanly-hit half volley from 25 yards onto the post with Alisson beaten.

Jordan Henderson was forced off at the break with a tight hamstring which will concern Jurgen Klopp, who already lost Sadio Mane over the international break to injury.

Salah had a great chance midway through the second half to kill the game but fired wide.

From then on, Liverpool really struggled to reach their top level as Huddersfield pressed forward, and Klopp was visibly frustrated at his side's lack of quality in the second period.

The Terriers should have been level when substitute Steve Mounie picked up a loose ball in the Liverpool area but somehow scooped his effort over the bar from six yards.

Klopp sent on Fabinho for his Premier League debut in an attempt to shore things up and while his side did see out the three points, the German is unlikely to be too happy with his side's performance.
