Hugo Lloris is hopeful France's Euro 2016 heartbreak will help him to become hungrier for success with Tottenham next season.

The Spurs goalkeeper played every minute of France's campaign this summer but Didier Deschamps' side came up short against Portugal in Sunday's final.

Eder's strike in extra time proved to be decisive as Lloris missed a chance to lift a major international trophy on home soil.

The 29-year-old could be excused for feeling sorry for himself after such a disappointing defeat but has already turned his attention to the new Premier League campaign, which starts next month.

“It was a big and long season and unfortunately, without a trophy with Tottenham and France," he told The Mirror.

"But I can be proud to take part in Tottenham's season and the French national team's adventure.

"I hope it will be give me more hunger for next season," added the goalkeeper.

Lloris also came close to adding to his trophy collection with Spurs last term when Mauricio Pochettino's side pushed eventual Premier League champions Leicester all the way only to collapse during the final few weeks of the season.

But Lloris has stressed he believes it is important to continue to stay positive after such setbacks as he aims to finally get his hands on a piece of silverware next term.

"You always need to look forward. It's true that it's a big frustration and a disappointment.

"But in football you always need to be positive and keep your chin up, especially when you've done your best," said Lloris.

Tottenham begin their Premier League campaign away to Everton on August 13 and will be keen to avoid the slow start that saw them pick up just three points from their opening four games a year ago.
