I could be sacked next week, says Carlo Ancelotti

11 April 2012

Carlo Ancelotti expects to discover his Chelsea fate next week and claims he won't shed a tear if he gets the sack.

The manager is expected to pay the price for the worst season of the Roman Abramovich era with the club ending the campaign without a trophy and with their lowest points total in the Premier League for eight years.

Ancelotti's future is not the only one in doubt with Yury Zhirkov and Jose Bosingwa already set to be sold in the summer.

The Italian continues to insist he wants to see out the last year of his contract but knows it is not up to him whether he stays in charge beyond Sunday's season finale at Everton.

"I expect us to meet next week," he said today. "The club have to judge my job with objectivity and if they decide to change it is not a problem. You won't see me cry. I will accept the decision and find another solution.

"I am always optimistic. I would like to stay but we have to wait to speak about this. This season was nothing special, we had a lot of problems, we were not able to win the League. We didn't play at our best, but we reached a good position.

"I have enjoyed this season. I trained 15 years, sometimes you are able to win, sometimes not but every time I was happy because I worked. Sometimes I did well or made a mistake but this is my job and I want to stay.

"To win here every year is not easy, it's a very competitive Premier League. Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Arsenal are all good teams and it is not possible to win every year but we will try to win the League again."

Regardless of who is in charge next season, Ancelotti believes the club won't need to make many changes to get the title back.

He said: "For this team to maintain top position, they don't need to spend a lot of money. We spent a lot in January on Fernando Torres and David Luiz and last summer on Ramires. We don't need to make a lot of changes to be at the top."

Didier Drogba - a target for Tottenham - and Salomon Kalou have also been linked with moves but Ancelotti added: "I think they will still be here next season. They still have a contract and the club are happy to keep them. In the past they played very well and scored a lot of goals.

Didier is 33 but he is fit and in good condition. Kalou is different, he is young but showed good support to the team, did well and scored a lot of goals."

However, Zhirkov and Bosingwa will be on their way as the club want to make room for new signings by getting rid of some of their underperforming stars.

Zhirkov has been one of the biggest disappointments since arriving for £18million from CSKA Moscow in 2009. The Russia international has been plagued by various injury problems and it is understood the left-sided player has also struggled to settle in London and Chelsea are ready to cash in on the 27-year-old.

Spartak Moscow have shown an interest, although he may not be too keen to go there having played for their rivals CSKA but a return to Russia is likely.

Portugal right-back Bosingwa, who arrived from Porto for £16.2m in 2008, is also no longer wanted by the club.

The 28-year-old has struggled since returning from a serious knee injury last October which had kept him on the sidelines for a year. Ajax star Gregory van der Wiel is Chelsea's first choice to replace Bosingwa.

Meanwhile, Ashley Cole was named as Chelsea players' Player of the Year last night while Petr Cech collected the main Player of the Year trophy which is nominated by the fans.
