Lazar Markovic has revealed he did not enjoy a good relationship with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and blamed the Northern Irishman's decision to play him in a number of different positions for his disappointing debut season at Anfield.
The Reds signed Markovic from Benfica in the summer of 2014, but the Serbia international went on to score just three goals in all competitions last term before being sent on a season-long loan to Turkish club Fenerbahce in August.
And Markovic has now admitted that his relationship with Rodgers - who was sacked this month and replaced by Jurgen Klopp - hindered his form last season, with a key issue being that he was not played in his favoured position.
"I didn’t have a good relationship with the coach," Markovic told Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
"That was a problem.
"I played in many positions but didn’t play in mine."
Rodgers was dismissed as Liverpool's first-team coach following the club's 1-1 draw with Everton earlier this month after three-and-a-half years in charge of the Reds.
Ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp has since been appointed as manager of the club and, after overseeing an away draw with Tottenham last weekend, he will take charge of his first home game when Liverpool host Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
