'I haven't got time for nonsense': David Moyes demands strong start from squad as West Ham reign begins

David Moyes says he has no time for nonsense if he is to make a success of his spell at West Ham.

The Scotsman was handed a six-month contract at London Stadium when he replaced Slaven Bilic last week, and will look to make a strong start and lift the Hammers out of the bottom three with a win in his first game at Watford this weekend.

The former Manchester United manager comes to the club at a time where the squad are low on confidence, form and effort.

The Hammers rank lowest in the Premier League for ground covered and sprints made, meaning Moyes has had to approach things a little different to his roles since leaving Everton.

“Am I approaching this in a more aggressive manner than recent jobs? Yes,” Moyes said. “I’ve just not got any time for any nonsense.

“Because as you know, I’m short here at the moment. I’ve not got any time, I’m not going to be pampering to any needs.

“I can’t be bothered. If anybody says they can’t get back from international duty, well don’t think you will be coming in and playing Saturday. It’s that sort of thing. It can’t happen any longer.

“You do the work, you do the training, you do the running back, you do the running forward, you do that then you have got a chance of getting selected.”

While the likes of Winston Reid and Marko Arnautovic have returned from international duty, though the former will have a fitness test before a decision is made over his involvement at Vicarage Road, Moyes has a number of problems to deal with on the injury front.

Javier Hernandez is sidelined for at least a week due to a hamstring problem, while Michail Antonio is yet to be passed fit after picking up a problem in training ahead of the Liverpool defeat.

James Collins has returned to training but will not be available having missed two months and Jose Fonte is out of action until the New Year.
