Nacer Chadli hopes that Belgian compatriot Christian Benteke chooses to join Tottenham this summer, after hinting that Spurs have made an approach.

The 24-year-old has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, after scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances for Aston Villa last season, including the winning goal against Spurs in a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane.

Aston Villa hope to tie him down to a new long term deal but with a £32.5 million buyout clause in his contract, Tim Sherwood’s side could be powerless to prevent their star man from leaving.

Despite heavy competition, Spurs winger Chadli hopes that Benteke will further bolster the Belgian contingent at White Hart Lane.

Chadli, along with Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele, all play alongside Benteke in the Belgian national team.

“I hope it’s going to happen but first they have to attract him and there are a lot of clubs who want him - and Christian has to make his choice,” he told Sky Sports News.
