Crystal Palace are in talks to sign defender Umaru Bangura from Norwegian club FK Haugesund.

Manager Ian Holloway has identified Bangura, 25, as a key acquisition to strengthen his back four and Palace have already had one bid rejected.

Bangura joined Watford as a youngster but never got to play for the club because he failed to secure a work permit and was loaned out before being released permanently in 2008.

Bangura is disappointed that Haugesund have rejected Palace’s interest so far.

He said: “I’m ready for new challenges and the Premier League is a great opportunity for me.”
