Injured Raheem Sterling could return for Chelsea match, says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola

Raheem Sterling could return from injury to face champions Chelsea on Sunday, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

The winger missed City's EFL Cup Final win over Arsenal at Wembley on Sunday because of a hamstring issue.

But Guardiola confirmed on Wednesday that the England international is recovering well from the problem and, while he might not make City's Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, Sterling could be back to face Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

"Raheem is much, much better," Guardiola said of the winger who has scored 15 Premier League goals this season.

"I don't know if he can play tomorrow but hopefully Chelsea (on Sunday) or Basel (on March 7)."

However, Guardiola said that Fernandinho will definitely miss City's trip to take on Arsenal because of a hamstring injury.

Chelsea will be under pressure to pick up all three points against runaway league leaders City after suffering a 2-1 defeat away to Manchester United last Sunday, which saw the Blues drop out of the top four spots into fifth place.
