Jack Wilshere injury update: Arsenal star hoping to make Premier League return this week

Jack Wilshere is hopeful of returning to Premier League action this week after scoring his first goal in 11 months in Arsenal’s Under 21s defeat to West Brom yesterday.

The 24-year-old capped his second successive 90-minute run-out for the Gunners’ second string with a smartly-taken volley as he bids to prove his fitness after undergoing surgery on his left fibula in September.

Prior to his goal, he had treatment on his right knee but was deemed OK to carry on.

Wilshere is desperate to get matches under his belt in time to be considered for Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad and has targeted a senior comeback in the coming days. Arsenal face West Brom at home on Thursday and there is an outside chance Wilshere could be included in the matchday squad but he is more likely to be involved for Sunday’s trip to Sunderland.

Hodgson names his 23-man travelling party on May 12, which gives Wilshere three matches to prove himself prior to the final game of the season against Aston Villa on May 15.
