Eric Dier believes Jadon Sancho will have a bright future with England after he came off the bench to make his debut in the goalless draw against Croatia.

The 18-year-old became the youngest England debutant since 2012 after coming on for Raheem Sterling - who held the previous record - on 77 minutes.

The Borussia Dortmund winger nearly made an immediate impact, running past Croatia defender Josip Pivaric and delivering a fine cross only for goalkeeper Danijel Subasic to palm it away.

It capped an impressive, albeit short, cameo from the promising forward and Tottenham defender Dier thinks Sancho will have a big say in England's future if he continues to play at his current level.

"Jadon Sancho was fantastic when he came on," Dier told Sky Sports.

"[He was] very direct and confident, fast and technicality very gifted.

"Hopefully he can be a big part of England in the future, he needs to keep working hard."

England had a host of chances to win in front of an empty stadium in Rijeka and Ben Chilwell, making his full debut, admitted it was "strange" to play with no fans present in the ground.

"It was strange, when you step out and sing the national anthem in an empty stadium," he said.

"We were all aware it would be a weird environment. You have to sing the anthem, no matter how bad you are.

"You like your family to be here but I am sure they are all watching it on TV. That is part of the game, we have to get on with it."
