Jadon Sancho ends Manchester United exile as loan return to Borussia Dortmund confirmed

Sancho says Dortmund move ‘feels like coming home’ as winger bids to resurrect his career

Jadon Sancho has secured a move away from Manchester United, with his return to Borussia Dortmund officially confirmed.

The winger has been exiled at United for much of this season after falling out with Erik ten Hag, and there had been no indication that Sancho was likely to return to the first-team squad.

United said Sancho "leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season" in a statement on their website.

The 23-year-old has joined Dortmund on loan, returning to the club he left in the summer of 2021 to join United in a £73million deal.

Sancho said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’.

“I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”

Sancho scored 38 Bundesliga goals in 104 appearances for Dortmund, but has been unable to consistently produce his best form since moving back to England.

He has managed just nine goals and six assists in 58 Premier League games, and has played just 77 minutes of football for United this season.

Sancho was dropped from the United squad for their clash with Arsenal in September and has not featured since, after Ten Hag criticised his performances in training. Sancho hit back at his manager's comments and insisted he was being made a "scapegoat".

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: “Jadon is an absolute difference player and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow.

“Even though he hasn't played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season.”
