Jamie Carragher has branded Jose Mourinho the “master” of time-wasting.

In the aftermath of Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle on Saturday – the Blues’ first defeat of the season in all competitions – Mourinho aired his frustrations at ball boys and crowd members who supposedly held the game up on purpose.

However, speaking on Monday evening, Carragher refused to accept that Mourinho had anything to feel aggrieved about, making reference to the match between Liverpool and Chelsea at the end of last season.

“Maybe those ball boys were watching the game at Anfield last season when Jose Mourinho gave a masterclass in time-wasting,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“We covered the game and we sort of agreed with it.

“It’s part of the game, it happens.

“They had six minutes of added time at the end, it was added on, and it’s part of the game.

“As I said, he’s the master at it.”
