January deal for Chelsea and Manchester United target John Stones 'not being considered' - Roberto Martinez

Going nowhere: John Stones

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is not anticipating a repeat of the summer transfer window in the New Year.

The Toffees are understood to have rejected four Chelsea bids for John Stones ahead of the new season, including a final £38million offer in the last week of the transfer window.

The interest prompted Stones to submit a transfer request in August, but Everton chairman Bill Kenwright maintained a tough stance and knocked back the player's demand.

Chelsea remain convinced a deal will be done in the future, while Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has also outlined Stones as a priority target.

It is thought Everton will demand north of £50million when they do agree to sell the player, but Martinez insists no deal will be done in January.

"It's very different," the Spaniard said of the winter transfer window.

Player Ratings: Leicester City vs Chelsea

1/22

"When you are right in the middle of a season, I think players understand that you can't sell someone if you can't replace him.

"We created a squad to see how far we could go over 10 months. January doesn't come into consideration.

"We'll never lose anyone in January, unless it's somebody who hasn't been playing and we need to find a solution. If he's a top performer, it's not even a consideration.

"January is a window to solve problems with players who are not featuring as often as they feel they should, or to bring in players from a lower league to give them an opportunity."
