Javi Garcia’s Premier belief

Javi Garcia says the unique nature of the Premier League gives Manchester City the belief that they can retain their title.

City lie 12 points behind Manchester United with an inferior goal difference but Garcia has suggested the competitivness of the English league means there is time for the leaders to slip up in the remaining 10 games.

United conceded an eight‑point advantage at a similar stage last season, which is giving City’s players hope that they can turn things around.

“We are Manchester City, we need to fight until the final game,” said midfielder Garcia. “The players remember the gap that City made up last season. If it was the same situation in another league it would be impossible to make up the gap but in England everything is possible because all the teams are stronger.”

City make the short trip to Old Trafford on April 8, knowing defeat will all but end their pursuit of a second successive title. But Garcia believes the focus should be on upcoming games against teams in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

“We still have to go to Old Trafford and obviously a win there would cut the gap but firstly we have strong matches to play against teams like Everton and Tottenham,” he said.
