Jay Bothroyd to join Queens Park Rangers

Premier boost: Jay Bothroyd looks set to become Neil Warnock's first signing of the summer
11 April 2012

Jay Bothroyd was today expected to become Queens Park Rangers' first summer signing.

The striker, who began his career at Arsenal, is a free agent after leaving Cardiff at the end of last season.

Negotiations with the 28-year-old, who won his only England cap when he played against France last November, broke down last month over his salary demands.

QPR have a strict wage structure in place but manager Neil Warnock has convinced the board to part with more funds.

And the newly-promoted Premier League side are also close to agreeing a £1.25million deal for Blackpool striker DJ Campbell.

Rangers face competition from Aston Villa and Sunderland for Campbell, who was the second-highest English goalscorer in the Premier League last season with 13 goals.
