Joey Barton: I will take pay cut for Everton

Joey Barton is hoping to secure a dream move to Everton after offering to take a 50 per cent pay cut in his QPR wages, writes Simon Johnson, and the Everton fan sent out a message on twitter today saying: “Once a blue….”

Rangers are ready to agree a pay-off with the 30-year-old midfielder so he can leave for free and want him off their wage bill as he has two years remaining on a contract worth £70,000-a-week. Barton was loaned out to Marseille last season but his agent Willie McKay has confirmed he is in talks with Everton manager Roberto Martinez and said: “I told him Joey would love to join Everton and that they are the only club he’s willing to lose money to play for.”
