John Terry has admitted he is "absolutely gutted" to be missing Chelsea's FA Cup fifth-round tie with Manchester City on Sunday, but told fans he is working as hard as possible to be back in action quickly.

Chelsea's interim manager Guus Hiddink confirmed on Friday that the club captain will not be available for selection for the match with City at Stamford Bridge following the hamstring injury he sustained in the victory over Newcastle United last weekend.

The 35-year-old subsequently missed Chelsea's Champions League last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, and could be out of action for the second leg in three weeks time.

Despite the blow, Terry took to his Instagram account on Friday afternoon to post a video of him undergoing recovery exercises and to tell supporters he is doing all he can to be back on the pitch in as little time as possible.

He wrote: "Absolutely gutted to be missing the F.A Cup game this weekend. I HATE being injured but working hard and giving everything to be back as soon as possible."

Terry's absence has left Hiddink with a defensive headache, with Kurt Zouma sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury, but the Chelsea coach admitted he was happy with the way his makeshift back line performance away to PSG on Tuesday.

"Of course it is disappointing to be without him [Terry] because he has been the leader of this team and at this club for years," Hiddink said.

"But on the other hand, I am not going to complain or moan. The guys who are putting their effort in his place have my confidence. Against PSG the defenders had a decent performance."
