Jose Mourinho praised Romelu Lukaku’s magic numbers after seeing his Manchester United side coast to a 4-1 win over CSKA in Moscow on Wednesday.

Belgium striker Lukaku, a summer signing from Everton, scored twice to take his tally to 10 in his first nine matches for the club — overtaking the record of Old Trafford legend Sir Bobby Charlton in the process.

“They are amazing numbers for Romelu,” said the United manager. “He is humble and wants to learn and improve all the time. I think ambition is there and I trust he can keep performing for us. It is a great achievement but it is only possible with a good team. Without a good team it is not possible and the team is playing well.”

Anthony Martial scored from the penalty spot and Henrikh Mkhitaryan added United’s fourth just after half-time.

United, who are level with local rivals City at the top of the Premier League, host rock-bottom Crystal Palace on Saturday and Mourinho insists there is no room for complacency.

“We play Saturday three o’clock against a fresh team,” he said. “We have to keep our feet on the ground.”
