Kolo Toure tells City slackers they must sharpen up

11 April 2012

Kolo Toure is urging Manchester City's players to start taking more responsibility on the pitch.

Manager Roberto Mancini is coming under increasing pressure during his first full season at the club with back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and struggling Wolves raising questions about City's ability to win a Champions League place.

Toure accepts the squad only have themselves to blame. The defender said: "We know we are a big team now. Everyone expects us to be at the top. We need to take more responsibility. When you play for one of the richest clubs in the world, you need to deliver. The criticism is good because that will makes us work harder."

Vincent Kompany and Emmanuel Adebayor had a row during Saturday's defeat at Molineux but following talks between the squad and manager, Toure dismissed reports of a rift in the camp.

"No, not at all," he said. "In any team there are problems. But the important thing is to try to resolve them in the dressing room and the training camp."
