Manchester United told they signed the wrong Ajax player as Mohammed Kudus ‘much better’ than Antony

Marco van Basten describes Ghana midfielder as “more of a footballer”

Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus is a better footballer than Manchester United’s Antony, according to Marco van Basten.

The Dutch legend compared the two players after the Red Devils signed Antony from Ajax last summer, suggesting United landed the wrong player for £85million.

Reports last year indicated that Ghana international Kudus was available for roughly half that amount as he went on to hugely impress at the World Cup.

Antony, meanwhile, has struggled to deliver consistently at Old Trafford with only three Premier League goals before suffering a recent injury.

“I like [Kudus] much better than Antony,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport.

“He's a better footballer and he's more fun to watch. Antony has skills but he can also look confused.

“Kudus has a much firmer technique and knows where he is going. Antony may be faster, but Kudus is smarter and more technical. He is much more of a footballer and an all-rounder for the team.”
