Manchester City have completed the signing of Kyle Walker from Tottenham.

The England right-back has made the switch to one of Spurs’ Premier League rivals for a fee believed to be £50million, a sum which equals the world-record for a defender.

City have effectively caved into Tottenham’s demands for Walker after missing out on Dani Alves, who chose to sign for Paris St Germain having been close to moving to the Etihad.

Walker, who has signed a five-year deal, had seemed destined for the Spurs’ exit door since the spring after showdown talks with Mauricio Pochettino, who had begun favouring Kieran Trippier due to doubts over the Manchester City-bound full-back’s fitness record.

Trippier, who made his England debut in a friendly against France in June, is now set to be Spurs’ first-choice right-back.

FC Porto defender Ricardo Pereira is Tottenham’s first-choice to replace Walker, with the Portuguese club valuing him at around £22m.

Spurs intend for Walker’s departure to be the end of their summer sales, with the £50m likely to be made available to Pochettino in the transfer window.
