Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said he never pinned Chelsea's hopes of securing a Champions League berth on Manchester City's ban.

The Blues have three games remaining this term to book their place in next season's Champions League, with Monday's decision from CAS to overturn City's ban from Europe denting Chelsea's chances of qualifying.

Fifth would have been enough for the Blues had City's ban been upheld, but now they must finish inside the top four to clinch a Champions League spot.

Lampard's side could end Monday clinging to a top-four spot by just one point, should Manchester United beat Southampton, but Lampard insists he was never banking on City's ban remaining.

"I was pretty neutral on it really. I didn't know much about the case, I just looked at the result at it this morning," he said.

"I don't see beyond the games in hand, we want to win them. I was never pinning my hopes on it, we just looked at ourselves."
