The third round of the Capital One Cup kicked off on Tuesday night and there were plenty of intriguing encounters on show.

West Ham, who ended Manchester City's flawless start to the Premier League season at the weekend, slipped to defeat at Leicester City.

Slaven Bilic's men fought back to take the game to extra time but were eventually beaten by an Andy King header, despite goalkeeper Adrian's best efforts.

A solitary goal from Peter Crouch was enough for Stoke to see off Fulham at Craven Cottage while Everton eased past Reading courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline.

Ross Barkley marked his 100th Toffees appearances with a superb strike before Gerard Deulofeu chipped in with a cracking free kick.

Aston Villa beat local rivals Birmingham City thanks to Rudy Gestede's header while Swansea City were the only side from the top tier to be eliminated after a 1-0 defeat at Hull City.

Manchester City claimed their place in the fourth round with an emphatic 4-1 win against Sunderland and you can see exactly how events unfolded by casting your eye back over Standard Sport's live blog.
