Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel signs new five-year deal

Standard Sport6 August 2016

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions, it has been confirmed.

The 29-year-old Denmark goalkeeper spoke about committing his future with the Foxes - who upset the odds last season by winning the top-flight title for the first time in their history - and said: "I've come back (from winning the title) absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be."

Schmeichel emulated his father — Manchester United goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel — by lifting the league trophy last season in one of football's biggest surprises.

Schmeichel, who played in all of Leicester's league games last season with 15 clean sheets, joined the club in 2011 and has made more than 200 appearances.

Leicester, who also have goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler on their books, start their title defense against Hull on August 13.
