Leyton Orient edged out in first leg

6 February 2013

A second-half strike from Ryan Leonard gave Southend a 1-0 advantage over Leyton Orient after the first leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern area final.

The match attracted Orient's largest home attendance of the season, 5,359.

Leonard (above) converted Sean Clohessy's cross to earn the surprise win at Matchroom Stadium and O's boss Russell Slade will need to rally his men for the return fixture in two weeks time.

The winners will face Coventry or Crewe in the Wembley final.

Last night, Crewe won the first-leg 3-0 in front of a 31,054 crowd at City's Ricoh Arena.
